Here’s a confession. Sometimes, I enjoy staying at home on Friday nights more than going out.
That’s why I always get excited whenever I have a night in planned with my girls!
But while it is a lot of fun, it can be tiring to think of activities to do. I, for one, prefer to laze it out on Friday nights rather than, you know,actually get busy doing something. Hey, it’s the weekend – no judging!

Why You Need to Watch It: Sweet love songs. Lovely Hawaii. A woman with a short-term memory loss who forgets everything that happened the day before. Humour and art. Spoiler alert: they go on first dates everyday.

Why You Need to Watch It: If you’re one of those who get annoyed with all the engagement announcements on Facebook, you need to watch this film about a single woman whose life is a mess and needs to be her best friend’s Maid of Honour.

Why You Need to Watch It: This is one of the book-based films that don’t put their origins to shame. Meryl Streep’s effective performance as Miranda Priestly is both refreshing and chilling – not to mention her fabulous wardrobe!
5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Starring: Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis
Why You Need to Watch It: A musician wants to forget his TV star ex-girlfriend so he goes on a vacation. Who else does he run into but the aforementioned ex and her new boyfriend? Bring on the awkwardness!
6. Crazy Stupid Love
Starring: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Steve Carell, Julianne Moore
Why You Need to Watch It: Let’s forget about Ryan Gosling for a moment and focus on the story. Aside from a beautiful cast (hello, Emma Stone), the movie actually gives us girls a new perspective of men, infidelity, and love.
7. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Starring: Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey
Why You Need to Watch It: Cheers to the ladies who go the extra mile at work! I know the plot can be predictable, but an unlikely romance developing between two opposites is always a sweet thing to watch.
8. Love Actually
Starring: Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley, Martine McCutcheon, Bill Nighy, Rowan Atkinson
Why You Need to Watch It: It boasts an all-star cast. I mean, Liam Neeson and Rowan Atkison in one romantic movie? That’s almost legendary. Of course, the interrelated, Christmas-themed stories will keep you glued to your screen.

Why You Need to Watch It: If you haven’t seen this film yet, don’t be fooled by the bright colours and the lighthearted storytelling. It talks about teenage pregnancy and the struggles and options that go with it in an effective, matter-of-fact way.

Starring: Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert
Why You Need to Watch It: Where do I begin with this one? Do I really need to? Okay, it’s a classic, this generation’s must-see movie. And it’s not even because of the perfect cast but because of the brilliant storytelling and humour that we all can relate to.

Starring: Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson
Why You Need to Watch It: Whether you sing or not, as long as you appreciate music, you will surely love this movie about a group of girls who don’t have anything in common other than the fact that they sing really well together!
12. Sweet Home Alabama
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas, Patrick Dempsey
Why You Need to Watch It: In this movie, Reese plays a New York fashion designer who gets engaged to the city’s most eligible bachelor. However, she needs to get a divorce with her redneck high school sweetheart. Guess what she realises?
Starring: Alicia Silverstone
Why You Need to Watch It: If Mean Girls is the chick flick of the 2000s, Clueless is the ultimate teen film of the 90s. You need to watch this for the humour, the lifestyles of the rich and the famous, and the most unexpected romance ever!
14. Dirty Dancing
Starring: Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze
Why You Need to Watch It: Perhaps one of the most iconic films of the 80s, this movie features two people who meet in a resort, become dance partners, and fall in love. This is still one of the most romantic films ever made.

Starring: Julia Roberts and Richard Gere
Why You Need to Watch It: Well, you need to watch this because this is the quintessential Julia Roberts film! Aside from that, this is simply a very sweet film about the most unlikely pair: a rich businessman and a prostitute.
16. Legally Blonde

Why You Need to Watch It: Can a girl be too blonde? Reese’s character realises this when she gets dumped by her boyfriend. She then decides to follow him to Harvard law school to get him back, but ultimately discovers herself.
Starring: Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet
Why You Need to Watch It: Well, first of all, I can’t think of any reason why you shouldn’t watch this! The ultimate film of the century, you need to see this because of the story, the history, the action, and because of the steamy love scene. Half-kidding.
Starring: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
Why You Need to Watch It: Every female has probably seen this movie, and it does have its sweet moments between a timid high-schooler and an ageless vampire. Don’t worry, girls; he’s vegetarian.
19. My Sister’s Keeper
Starring: Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin
Why You Need to Watch It: This film features a really interesting family dynamic between an unconventional relationship. Like, how would you feel if you were conceived just to be your older sister’s bone marrow donor?
20. If I Stay
Starring: Chloë Grace Moretz and Jamie Blackley
Why You Need to Watch It: Based on a novel, this film is about a girl who has to make a difficult decision between pursuing her dream at Juilliard or be with the love of her life. However, a car accident changes everything.
21. The Lakehouse
Starring: Sandra Bullock and Keannu Reeves
Why You Need to Watch It: This is another unlikely romance not because of the people involved but because of the circumstances surrounding it. Why? Because they are living in two different years, that’s why.
22. Dear John
Starring: Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum
Why You Need to Watch It: The romance that occurs between the lead characters starts strong, but we also see the realistic struggles that deployment and long-distance relationship entail. And, yeah, Channing Tatum in a uniform.
23. P.S. I Love You
Starring: Hilary Swank and Gerald Butler
Why You Need to Watch It: The movie starts off with a heartbreak when Gerald Butler’s character dies because of an illness and leaves his wife behind. Even from the dead, through the letters he had prepared, he guides his wife to move on with life.
24. Notting Hill
Starring: Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts
Why You Need to Watch It: Featuring a more mature Julia Roberts, this utterly sweet film is about, well, another unlikely romance between an American actress and an English bookstore owner and how they reconcile their differences.
25. Four Weddings and a Funeral
Starring: Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell
Why You Need to Watch It: Hugh’s character here is unlucky with love, but his fate seems to change when he meets an American girl. Despite being away from each other, their paths keep crossing even if the timing seems to be always off.
